Oil Pastels – Wow!

Anxious to try a different media to watercolour for a change I bought a pack of oil pastels and oh boy, they’re fantastic fun to use. So vivid and flexible – especially when they started melting in today’s warm sunlight! They require a completely different technique to watercolour or soft pastel. Being so fast you can’t mess about – you have to work quickly – and detail is difficult simply because of the way the media gets onto the paper. All this suits me and my “sloppy” style – so here’s to a few happy hours getting messy with the pastels.

Here’s my first oil pastel painting – “The green field”.

Left with the use of my left arm/hand only, after a serious motor cycle accident in 2005, I am learning to adapt to life with a brachial plexus injury and have developed a style of playing guitar using open tunings. I love drawing, painting and generally messing around in a fairly loose fashion. Can't describe myself as an artist, but perhaps a doodler with intent.
