As temperatures fall and the weather deterriorates then wildlife gets more desperate to secure the food that sustains them through the winter. That’s where we come in to provide the seed, nuts and fat balls that the birds depend on. In a very real sense we become a habitat. As our own resources deplete then we can empathise with the creatures we share the planet with. Where will we find our own fat balls? Already there is evidence that folks are getting more canny about where they shop, what supermarkets they use and how much they spend. Survival tactics become more obvious. For example – poaching is reputedly on the increase. Hoarding takes on greater importance.
Meanwhile this woodpecker and tree sparrows seem to understand what’s going on.
